1st phase of the Peugeot 508 China launch in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province


From the 16th to the 21st of June the first press test drives of the Peugeot 508 in China, premiered this year at the Shanghai Motor Show, will be held for magazine and specialized press in Hangzhou, capital of the Zhejiang province one of the richest provinces within the People’s Republic of China.

A high end venue, for an exceptional car

The decision to conduct the launch in Hangzhou was taken for two distinct reasons  : firstly, because within this region reside the majority of this vehicles’ customer base which is situated in the upper end of the Chinese B segment, that is to say in the upper end of the superior mid range segment, and secondly, to provide a high end environment in which to appreciate the three themes dedicated to this launch in China: Design-allure, vehicle functionality and technology and a unique driving experience.    

80 journalists will conduct test drives from a car park comprised of 25 vehicles, on roads around Hangzhou which are known for their distinctive variety, within a region considered in China to be one of its most beautiful, attested to in the Chinese proverb : “In heaven there is paradise, on earth there are Hangzhou and Suzhou”

A launch schedule in line with its ambitions: One 508 in three to be sold in China

These test drives constitute only the 1st phase of an integrated launch schedule which will continue through until mid August, at which time the first deliveries of 508 will begin to clients within the Dong Feng Peugeot dealer network of 220 point of sales across 182 Chinese cities.    

On the 10th of July 2011, the second phase of the launch will take place with a dealer and press convention, also be held in Hangzhou, the primary venue for the 508 launch in China. From this date onward each Dong Feng Peugeot point of sales will have at least one 508 in their showroom and vehicles available for customer test drives. 

From the 14th to the 24th of July, the second wave of press test drives will take place for generalist media, web media, radio and television with some 200 journalists invited. The same format will be then used in a systematic approach with prospective fleet customers.  

As of August 10th the first vehicles will be delivered to customers, this date was specifically chosen from the Chinese lunar calendar in order to combine all the best conditions possible for a successful 508 launch. 

Manufactured in Wuhan, in Hubei province, at a leading edge factory complex

The Peugeot 508 China is manufactured at factory N°2 in Wuhan, under the joint venture agreement between PSA Peugeot Citroën and DFM (Dong Feng Motors). The 508 production volumes for the Chinese market, in a full calendar year, will be 65,000 units annually with a worldwide production of 200,000 units per year. Furthermore, one 508 in three produced and one sedan in two will be manufactured and sold on the Chinese market, which is today the world’s largest automobile market.
