Successful premiere of e-208 at ECO energy Rally Bohemia: the PEUGEOT CZ team won three main trophies
The electric PEUGEOT e-208 completed its Czech premiere at the ECO energy Rally Bohemia. The PEUGEOT CZ team with driver Jan Novotný and navigator Petr Jakušev showed an excellent performance and won three gold cups: in the manufacturer’s classification, in the category of electric cars and in the overall classification.
Rallies for cars with alternative fuels are an opportunity to introduce new technologies, demonstrate the qualities of these cars and gain public interest. These competitions are usually part of classic rallies, but unlike them, there are for crews from the general public, without any special license or training. This year's ECO energy Rally Bohemia was run for the third year in a row as part of the legendary Rally Bohemia.
This year's starting field for cars with alternative fuels was extremely competitive compared to previous years. From 30 registered crews 25 competed in the category of electric cars. Seven from the 16 participating brands competed for the manufacturers' cup. As part of this strong field, the national premiere of the electric Peugeot e-208 took place. The main role was played by the car, which is the first and, so far, the only in the Czech Republic. Jan Novotný, the editor-in-chief of MOTORVIZE.cz, got behind the wheel. The experienced driver, who has already competed in several similar rallies, was navigated by the equally experienced co-driver and editor Petr Jakušev.
The team called PEUGEOT CZ and its PEUGEOT e-208 with start number 10 started the ECO energy Rally Bohemia on Thursday, July 9, in the evening from Mladá Boleslav. The first stage was completed by the young crew in second place. Throughout the second day, Jan and Petr kept up the optimal pace and avoided any mistakes, which brought them into the lead. Despite the pressure of their opponents, they kept the overall first place until the very end of the rally, and on Sunday, they took over the most valuable cups during a ceremony on the square in Mladá Boleslav. They won first place in the category of electric cars, in the overall classification and secured the Constructors' cup for the PEUGEOT.
"This year's ECO energy Rally Bohemia saw a significant improvement compared to the previous years. Over time, the competition became a tough battle for the highest possible accuracy on both the regularity tests and at the transits. The most important thing was not to make any mistake and keep up the pace, which we did well. It has not been easy to be the first on the track since Friday afternoon, with all the opponents behind. Fortunately, I had two particularly important supports at my disposal. The first was the PEUGEOT e-208, which due to the installation of a reasonably large battery (50 kWh) and a real range of over 300 km even during the more than 700 km long competition did not cause any extra worries. The second support was my co-driver, who held our participation and gave our crew the basis for successful completion of the competition," said the driver Jan Novotný after the rally.
The result was also praised by Jan's co-driver Petr Jakušev, editor of MOTORVIZE.cz:
“I consider this year's ECO energy Rally Bohemia to be a really successful event. The PEUGEOT e-208 was a great mate for us and its range guaranteed us a pleasant reserve every day. Our crew won after more than 300 competition kilometres in less than 14 seconds (139 penalty points), which only proves the strength of the competition and a very balanced fight until the very end."
After the title CAR of the YEAR 2020, the PEUGEOT 208 added another award to its list. He provided a great "entrée" for the PEUGEOT e-208, which will gradually arrive in the Czech Republic, as well as for other electric models from the PEUGEOT.
